From the opening scene to the final chapter, the characters in this book dive onto the page and demand your attention. Awaken’s heroine, Alee Moyer, comes into the world under a cloud of mystery and death defying odds. By the time she realizes what questions she must ask, she has answers that bring her questions that she can’t begin to comprehend.

Alee is given to The Moyers’ by her great-grandmother after her birth, with an ominous declaration that if any harm comes to her, The Moyers will be killed. Within days they immediately realize her health is fragile. They spend the first years of her life seeking answers to why her life may end before she can even begin. Alee fights their overprotective ways as any normal child would, but even the Moyers’ can’t possibly know the myriad of ways in which Alee is both blessed and cursed.

Nina Soden weaves a gripping, heart-wrenching story that takes you into a world of magic and mystery, and shows us all how our gifts and talents can take us to the depths of good and evil. If you think you’re rooting for Alee Moyer in Chapter One, just keep reading.
